April is a nurse with a degree in public health. Previously she worked for hospitals and health departments in Virginia & Pennsylvania USA, and managed a variety of health projects in central and south Asia. Her previous public health experience focused on understanding the barriers people face in accessing health services, health equity, and community-based health initiatives. In 2018, April and her family made the move to The Netherlands. Based in Amstelveen, she continues to learn and navigate the various pathways and doors that are part of the Dutch health care and education systems. April is passionate about improving people’s access to and understanding of health information and health services. She created Healthy Here NL in an effort to promote health within the international community through projects that increase the availability of health information and build bridges between healthcare providers and internationals.
Sheena is an American-trained, board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner with a background in emergency medicine. For the past six and a half years, she has called Amstelveen home. Living here as an expat has given her a deep understanding of both the strengths of the Dutch healthcare system and the challenges internationals often face when trying to access care. That experience inspired her to join Healthy Here NL, a healthcare initiative designed to support internationals in The Netherlands and help them feel confident navigating the system. Just as importantly, Healthy Here NL also helps healthcare providers connect more effectively with the international community. Sheena's passion is making healthcare feel accessible, empathetic, and human for everyone — because no one should feel like an outsider when it comes to their health.
