Is the influenze (flu) vaccine available in The Netherlands? Yes, it is possible to get the annual flu shot in The Netherlands - you just need to know where to ask.
In The Netherlands, the flu vaccine is not offered to everyone nor widely advertised as it is in some other countries. Additionally, the annual flu vaccine is not part of the national immunization program for children.
The flu vaccine is available through general practitioners’ clinics (huisarts) for people who have been designated as high-risk for complications should they become sick with the flu. Categories for high-risk (doelgroep) include the elderly and those with certain chronic health conditions. If you believe you or your child are at higher risk of being sick from the flu, you must discuss this with your huisarts before flu season to be certain you are included on the list to receive the flu vaccine from your huisarts.
If you want to receive the flu vaccine but you are not in a ‘doelgroep’ (focus group) there are still a few options to get the vaccine. You will have to make the appointment yourself and pay for the vaccination out-of-pocket.
See the information we've curated below to learn where you can get the flu vaccine in the fall/winter of 2025.
There is a lot of information in the links below, including information about prices. Please note that these health clinics will not answer specific questions or give vaccination advice over the phone; you must go in person. The good news is that vaccinations are usually given during the initial consultation appointment.
Vaccinatiepunt offers a travelers consultation and vaccination program as well as some vaccinations upon request (For example, you’re not traveling, but you want to complete your Hepatitis A series or you want to update your MMR vaccine).
The Vaccinatiepunt locations in Amsterdam Central and Haarlem currently have the flu vaccination in stock. As of 19 November 2025, the Amstelveen Vaccinatiepunt located at the Ziekenhuis Amstelland does not have the flu vaccine available.
*Important to note: when scheduling your appointment online, you must select “Bedrijsvaccinatief” or “Corporate Vaccination” as the type of appointment you want.*
It makes no difference to Vaccinatiepunt if you are a ZZP’er, stay-at-home-parent, or work for a company. This is simply their scheduling system to get to the flu vaccination “on request” (as the flu vaccine is not a vaccination given for travel). Select Amsterdam Central or Haarlem as your location if you intend to request the flu vaccine. Then you can select a date and time.

At the GGD Amsterdam, they offer a program called Vaccinaties op maat. Vaccinaties op maat allow you to make an appointment, during which you request to receive a vaccine that is not part of the national immunization schedule. For example, you can request, pay for, and receive the vaccine for chickenpox (varicella) for your child, or the MMR vaccine for an adult. Vaccinaties op maat is a separate service from the vaccines given at the GGD under the national immunisation program.
As of mid-November 2025, the flu vaccine is currently available for people aged 16 and older. Use this link to make an appointment:
